After graduating from the Australian Institute of Dramatic Art in 1992 Cate Blanchett appeared in popular television films and on the stage in theatres. After making a name for herself as a talented television actress in her native Australia, she was awarded the big screen role of Queen Elizabeth in the 1998 film Elizabeth. Cate’s performance in the film stunned film critics, and won her Academy Award nomination for Best Actress. Cate soon became known in Hollywood, propelled by her sublime talent.

Blanchett was soon in high demand by film producers everywhere. She went on to star alongside some of Hollywood’s biggest names. She worked with Jude Law, Matt Damon and Gwyneth Paltrow in The Talented Mr. Ripley (for which she was nominated for a BAFTA award), with Christina Ricci and Johnny Depp in The Man Who Cried and next to Angelina Jolie and Billy Bob Thornton in Pushing Tin. After starring in all three instalments of The Lord of the Rings trilogy, Blanchett won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her portrayal of Katharine Hepburn in Martin Scorcese’s The Aviator.
