Casquette

Casquette

A cap is a type of hat that usually features a visor or a bill. It is usually made of fabric, leather or synthetic material.

The cap craze first appeared in the nineteenth century. Inspired by the military hats of the time, caps soon became uniform headgear for workers in all sorts of different sectors. .

At the start of the twentieth century, the cap became known as a sporty hat, worn by baseball players to display teams or by other athletes to advertise their sport or association. In the 30’s, caps became an everyday accessory.

The flat, fabric cap with a button in the middle of the front became a regular fashion appearance in all different social sectors. In the 80’s, the cap evolved into a symbol of hip-hop and urban cultures.

Now, caps are not so much used as a symbolic accessory. They can be worn as an everyday accessory, and tend to give a look a more sporty, electro or urban look. All sportswear brand from Nike and Adidas to Puma and Converse sell hats. Even designers like Burberry, Dolce & Gabanna, Armani and Gucci regularly introduce caps in their accessory lines.
