Camisole

Camisole

A camisole is a women’s under garment. It is sleeveless and covers the bust and torso.

The camisole has become a classic sleeveless garment. Traditionally, it is worn under a shirt as a sort of undershirt. Similar to a tank top, camisoles have thin straps and usually fall around the waistline. They are generally in basic, solid colours and are sold by every major lingerie brand including Dim and Petit Bateau.

Today, camisoles are worn as an everyday, simple piece of clothing. Numerous designers like Tommy Hilfiger, Calvin Klein and Ralph Lauren have transformed the camisole into a centrepiece of their collections.

Burberry personalised the camisole into an everyday top, adding pockets to the sides. Marc by Marc Jacobs even turned it into an evening top, introducing plum and rose striped cotton and satin camisoles for Spring/Summer 2008.
